All in all, the Microsoft Surface Laptop go (21O-00004) is a great choice for those who want a lightweight laptop that packs a punch. With its slim and stylish design, powerful processor, great battery life, and comfortable typing experience, this laptop is sure to make your life much easier.

Main Features

  • Intel Core i5 10th Gen. Processor
  • 4 in. screen size, 1536 x 1024
  • 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD
  • Intel UHD Graphics GPU
  • Windows 10 Pro

Performance

In terms of performance, the laptop is pretty straightforward to evaluate. It comes with only a single processor option, i.e., the Intel Core i5, which offers top-notch output in different entry-level activities. The laptop fundamentally comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD, which may cause some performance issues as less RAM means less space for temporarily storing data and files while running them.

To avoid this issue, check out the upgraded Microsoft Surface Laptop Go (21O-00004) variant available at Laptop Outlet. The RAM is upgraded from 8 GB to 16 GB, resulting in significantly faster multitasking. This upgrade in RAM also lets you quickly and efficiently handle more complex tasks such as video editing and 3D rendering. With more RAM, there is more space for applications to run, resulting in fewer system slowdowns and time lags. All in all, the (21O-00004) updated configuration is a much better choice!

Battery Life

It is one of my favourite specifications on this laptop. The battery easily lasts for up to 13 hours on a single recharge. Even if the laptop is not fully charged, it can still function for 10-12 hours. This means you can easily move around without worrying about carrying the charger or finding the nearest electric port.

Graphics & Display

The screen of this laptop is an inch smaller than the smallest laptop in the Microsoft 3 family, but this is not a bad thing. There are many benefits to having a smaller laptop. For instance, the smaller the laptop, the more mobile it will be. You can easily move here and there with a laptop that has a smaller screen size.

Other than being slimmer and lighter, the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go also comes with a 3:2 aspect ratio, which means it is narrower and taller than the customary 16:9 orientation. So, when you visit a webpage or open a spreadsheet, you can view more without having to scroll down.

Other than work, the display is also decent for entertainment. For instance, I often stream Friends and The Big Bang Theory on Netflix. The colors, vibrancy, and sharpness are all well-balanced. From a distance of one or two feet, all the major details are extremely clear. The visuals are crisp and retain your attention. However, for some minor details such as the board attached to the backdoor of Joey’s apartment, that can get a little grainy. But overall, the experience is highly pleasing.

Processor Power

The Intel Core i5, Intel UHD Graphics, 16 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of SSD—thanks to all of these amazing features, the Surface Laptop Go (21O-00004) is highly capable of seamlessly performing multiple tasks such as fast-paced web browsing, casual computing, and first-person gaming.

Being a content creator, I also used Adobe Photoshop on this laptop. Just like other content creation applications and programs, Adobe Photoshop usually consumes more energy and can cause the system of an ordinary laptop to slow down. But with the Microsoft Surface Laptop (21O-00004), the software works extremely well, even with 10 different complex filters applied to the JPEG image.

Design and Appearance

The Microsoft Surface Laptop (21O-00004) is tiny and easily portable thanks to its 12.4" screen size. The overall appearance of the laptop resembles the Microsoft 3 family, which has a range of bigger and more expensive laptops. Even though the size is reduced, the quality of the laptop is still the same.

Furthermore, the product comes with a sleek aluminium display and a polycarbonate base. The aluminium display is modern and chic and fits well in work and personal environments. The polycarbonate base gives an extra layer of security to the laptop, making it durable against any accidental shocks, drops, or bumps. Overall, the combination of these two materials makes the laptop both lightweight and resilient—the best of both worlds!

The screen of the laptop comes with curved edges and narrow bezels on the sides, which are not usual for Microsoft Surface laptops. This gives an overall enhanced aesthetic to the device.

Keyboard and touchpad

The keyboard is well-designed and offers a pleasant typing experience. You won’t experience any hand strain, even after long hours of typing or number crunching. The touchpad is also generously sized to let you easily move your hands across the cursor. The reliability and precision of the touchpad are also excellent.

Connectivity

Unlike most modern laptops, the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go has multiple external ports to meet all of your connectivity needs. Most of the ports are on the left side of the laptop. Both rectangular USB-A and USB-C ports are in-built, which can support almost every device developed in recent years.

There is an additional Surface Connect plug on the right side of the laptop. So, you can charge the laptop while connected to any external peripheral of your choice. This connect plug can also be used to support some of Microsoft's hubs and docks. For instance, you can attach the 3.5mm headphone jack via this port and enjoy unstoppable music.

Pros and Cons of Microsoft Surface Laptop Go

·        Pros

The laptop has a 720p front-facing web camera, which is perfect for all business users who are always in between video conferences. The quality of the camera is pretty decent, and it delivers high-quality output.

The Microsoft Surface Laptop Go has a power button that can also be used as a fingerprint reader. The laptop doesn’t have a face recognition log-in feature, but in my opinion, the fingerprint scanner is much more reliable. There are two reasons behind this. First, you can still log in without entering a password, and second, you can avoid any unintentional logins.

Manufacturers frequently install multiple software trails in low-cost laptops in order to increase profit margins. These programmes are usually of no use to the buyer and still occupy a lot of computer space. It is highly appreciative that the Microsoft Surface laptop doesn’t have any such issue, which makes it much more user-friendly.

·        Cons

There is only one major con to this laptop, which is the relatively lower resolution that comes with a smaller screen size. The screen is still high-quality and is equivalent to full HD resolution, but the text can get a little grainy when viewing the laptop from a distance of one or two feet.

Other than that, the laptop is completely sealed except for one small opening, which is a passageway for cooling down the internal system of the laptop. Sometimes, when you are constantly running intensive applications, you can hear some noise coming from this hole (which shows that the laptop is being cooled down). The noise is not that loud, and if you are not sitting in pin-drop silence, you might not even notice it.

The sound system of the device is also attached to the same opening, which acts as the air passageway. So, the speaker quality of the laptop is not that top-notch. If you want to watch any informative video, attend any work-related conference, or watch a short documentary, the speakers will suffice. But if you want a complete immersive experience, then attaching external headphones or speakers might be better.

Wrapping Up!

Keeping in view the above-discussed features, it is safe to say that for this price, the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go is surely a show-stealer. It is the ideal device for all power-hungry users who are always on the go. If you are looking for a laptop that has excellent processing speed, ultra-high-performance levels, and ample storage, this is the best device for you!
