Oppo smartphones are great choices for budget-minded users who like using the latest technology. Aside from their mesmerizing cameras, Oppo mobiles offer high-end specs at an economical price range. The brand has a vast variety of smartphones under its belt ranging from budget mobiles to premium flagship phones. Today, we are going to review a cheap smartphone from Oppo A-series.

Oppo A53 is an affordable phone and that is also its main selling point. In fact, this is one of the cheapest smartphones with Android 10 OS. The hardware selection, quality camera setup, and long battery life also gives it a kick.

If you are considering buying the Oppo A53, we have evaluated its specs. Our Oppo A53 review includes design evaluation as well as display assessment.

Design & Build

Oppo A53 is a budget phone, but the brand has worked on small details. At a glance, it appears like a delightful smartphone that comes in four colour choices. The brand is only providing Electric Black and Mint Cream colours in UK. However, you can get your hands-on Fancy Blue and Fairy White shades as well in other markets.

During our Oppo A53 review, we found its body to be on the chunky side. It weighs around 186g with a thickness profile of 8.4mm. Nevertheless, it will fit well in your hand, thanks to its curved edges. The 3D wave design on its backside makes it more pleasing aesthetically.

Oppo A53 Review: Display

The display on Oppo A53 is an LCD panel that is 6.5-inch large. At the top left, there is a punch-hole notch while the bottom edge is a bit thick. The overall screen-to-body ratio is 89.2% with 480 nits of average screen brightness. This is a neo display that offers up to a 90Hz refresh rate.

Sadly, this is not an FHD display as the screen resolution is capped at 1600×720p. This is not surprising as we were not expecting a brighter display at this price. For a budget Android phone, this is a decent display that you can use to stream videos and playing games at medium settings.

Camera Setup on Oppo A53

Oppo A53 features an 8MP AI-powered selfie-camera that resides in a punch-hole notch. The AI technology smooths the user’s skin for better image quality. Furthermore, you can use the beauty filter to make your selfies on social media worthy. The front camera can also be used to capture detailed shots and taking portraits.

The rear side features a triple-camera setup with a 13MP main sensor. Additionally, there are two 2MP lenses (one macro and one depth) for better image quality. However, we missed the ultra-wide lens during our Oppo A53 review as most smartphones now have one.

Overall, this is a great setup that you can use for capturing the moment and shooting videos. The images we captured during the camera assessment were saturated with colors. It lacks the night mode but takes quality images in daylight.

Hardware Selection & Performance

The A53 features SDM 460 chipset which can deliver up to 1.8GHz CPU speed. This is a low stream yet efficient SoC that can handle the needs of an everyday user. It runs on the Android 10 OS with ColorOS 7.2. Additionally, there is 4GB RAM while the storage capacity on Oppo A53 is 64GB.

Moreover, there is a 5000mAg battery that can take you through a long busy day. The hardware combination on this budget Oppo phone is modest but offers real value for money.

Final Thoughts

The A53 is an inexpensive, budget-friendly phone in Oppo’s line. It lacks some specs, like a full HD display or ultra-wide lens, still, it delivers value. The Android 10 OS, 5000mAH battery, and modest RAM & ROM make up for its weaknesses. For everyday users, this is a cheap smartphone with some awesome flagship features.
