Intel Desktop Processors for Every Performance Level
Build around the performance your PC actually needs. Laptop Outlet stocks Intel Core and Core Ultra desktop processors for mainstream upgrades, gaming systems and demanding creator builds, so you can spend where it makes the biggest difference.
- Intel Core i5: A strong fit for everyday computing, mainstream gaming and balanced PC builds.
- Intel Core i7: More headroom for high-refresh gaming, streaming, editing and heavier multitasking.
- Intel Core i9: High-end LGA1700 performance for demanding gaming, production and compute-heavy workloads.
- Intel Core Ultra 5: Mid-range newer-platform performance for gaming, productivity and fresh system builds.
- Intel Core Ultra 7: A high-performance option for faster gaming, creation and intensive multitasking.
- Intel Core Ultra 9: Flagship desktop capability for users who can put the extra processing power to work.

Compare Intel Core & Core Ultra Desktop Processors
Intel Core and Core Ultra use different desktop platforms, so compatibility matters as much as the processor tier.
- Intel Core 12th–14th Gen: Uses LGA1700 and can support DDR4 or DDR5 depending on the motherboard. A practical route for Core i5, i7 and i9 upgrades.
- Intel Core Ultra Series 2: Moves to LGA1851 with Intel 800-series motherboards and DDR5 memory, making it better suited to newer platform builds.
- Core Ultra 200S Plus: Extends the LGA1851 range with newer Core Ultra 5 and 7 options for gaming and productivity systems.
Moving to a new platform can also mean changing RAM, so check compatible desktop memory alongside the processor and motherboard.
Intel Gaming Processors to Match Your Graphics Card
For a gaming PC, balance an Intel gaming CPU with the graphics card rather than putting the whole budget into one component. Core i5 and Core Ultra 5 leave more room for GPU spending in mainstream builds, while Core i7 and Core Ultra 7 suit high-refresh gaming, streaming and stronger graphics setups. Core i9 and Core Ultra 9 make more sense when the same PC also handles demanding creator or productivity work.
Competitive games at high frame rates can lean harder on the processor, while QHD and 4K AAA gaming often shifts more of the workload to the GPU. Match the CPU to the games, resolution and refresh rate you actually use.

Choose Between K, F & KF Processor Models Before Buying
Intel suffixes tell you what the processor expects from the rest of the build. They can also change the real cost of the upgrade.
K: Unlocked for supported tuning and overclocking. Budget for a suitable cooling solution.
F: Processor graphics are disabled, so the system needs a dedicated graphics card for display output.
KF: Unlocked and also requires dedicated graphics.
No suffix: Often the simpler route for mainstream systems where integrated graphics and stock operation are useful.
If you are going for a K or KF model, factor suitable CPU cooling into the build cost rather than looking at the processor price alone.
Check LGA1700 or LGA1851 Compatibility
LGA1700 is the platform for 12th, 13th and 14th Gen Intel Core desktop processors. Core Ultra Series 2 and 200S Plus move to LGA1851. The two CPU sockets are not interchangeable.
Before ordering, confirm the exact CPU support list for your motherboard, the chipset, the required BIOS version and the memory type. An LGA1700 board may use DDR4 or DDR5 depending on the model, while Core Ultra desktop systems use the newer LGA1851 platform with DDR5.
Start the platform around an Intel-compatible motherboard that supports the exact processor you plan to install.
Plan Your Cooler, Memory & Power Requirements
A CPU upgrade rarely stops at the processor. Check what the exact product includes, then account for the supporting hardware before setting the budget.
Cooling: K and KF boxed processors do not include Intel's fan heatsink, so allow for separate cooling where required.
Memory: Match the RAM to the motherboard platform instead of assuming your existing modules will carry over.
Power: Size the PSU around the processor, graphics card and the rest of the build under load.
Case fit: Large air coolers and radiators still need enough chassis clearance once the system is assembled.
For gaming and higher-performance builds, consider CPU and GPU power together and review suitable power-supply options for the complete system.
