Shop DDR4 Memory for Desktops & Laptops
Find DDR4 memory for compatible desktops, laptops, and compact PCs at Laptop Outlet. Check capacities, speeds, and module configurations carefully, as desktop DIMMs and laptop SO-DIMMs are different formats and cannot be used interchangeably.
DDR4 Desktop RAM
Choose full-size DDR4 desktop RAM for a compatible PC build or memory upgrade. Our Kingston FURY Beast listings include DDR4-3200 and DDR4-3600 kits, while Corsair Vengeance LPX options include low-profile desktop modules designed to fit a wide range of PC configurations. Before ordering RAM for desktop PCs, confirm the motherboard's DDR generation, maximum memory capacity, and supported speeds.
DDR4 Laptop SO-DIMMs
For compatible notebooks and compact systems, choose DDR4 laptop RAM in the smaller SO-DIMM format. Our options from Crucial, Kingston FURY Impact, and Origin Storage, including 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB configurations across the range.
Check your exact laptop or mini-PC model before choosing laptop memory modules. Confirm that the memory is upgradeable, how many slots are available and the maximum capacity supported. Some laptops use soldered memory or combine soldered RAM with one upgradeable slot.
A DDR4 SO-DIMM cannot replace a full-size desktop DIMM, even when the capacity and rated speed are identical.
Choose Your Capacity: 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB
The right capacity depends on how much memory your system already uses and what your applications require.
- 8GB DDR4 RAM: can suit lighter everyday systems or provide an additional compatible module where more capacity is needed.
- 16GB DDR4 RAM: provides additional headroom for multitasking, office applications, gaming and general productivity when supported by the system.
- 32GB DDR4 RAM: can be useful for heavier multitasking, content creation, larger projects and other memory-intensive workloads.
Higher capacities can also be considered where they are stocked and supported by the motherboard, processor, and operating system.
Always read kit capacity correctly. 16GB (2 × 8GB) means the package contains two 8GB modules providing 16GB in total. It does not mean two 16GB modules. You can also explore the wider range of RAM modules if you need a different generation, format or capacity.
Single Module or Matched Memory Kit?
A single module can make sense when your system has an unused slot and you have confirmed that the new memory is compatible with the existing configuration. This approach can also preserve an empty slot for a later upgrade.
DDR4 memory kits contain modules supplied and tested together. A matched 2 × 8GB or 2 × 16GB kit can be useful when replacing existing memory or configuring supported dual-channel memory from the start.
Check:
- How many memory slots your system provides
- Which slots are already occupied
- Maximum supported memory per slot
- Supported single, dual or other channel configurations
- Whether you want to keep slots free for future expansion
Do not assume two separately purchased modules will operate together at their advertised speed and timings just because their headline specifications look similar.
DDR4-3200 or DDR4-3600: What Should You Buy?
Both DDR4-3200 and DDR4-3600 are represented within the desktop range, while many listed laptop SO-DIMMs operate at DDR4-3200. A higher transfer rate is only useful when the processor, motherboard, and BIOS support it.
Check three factors together:
- Capacity: how much working memory the system has
- Transfer rate: the amount of data memory can transfer over time
- Latency: the delay associated with completing memory operations
Do not treat a CL16 label as automatically superior without considering the memory speed, timings and platform compatibility alongside it.
If your motherboard requires DDR5 rather than DDR4, choose compatible high-speed DDR5 RAM instead. The two generations are physically and electrically different.
Compare Kingston, Corsair, Crucial, & Origin Storage
Laptop Outlet carries DDR4 products from established memory manufacturers, giving you different specifications to compare against your system requirements.
Kingston FURY Beast desktop memory is available within the range in 3200 and 3600 configurations. Selected modules use a low-profile heat spreader and support Intel XMP profiles, subject to compatible hardware and BIOS support.
Corsair Vengeance LPX is another desktop option. Its low-profile design can be useful where CPU cooler or internal case clearance is limited, while supported kits include XMP memory profiles.
Crucial provides DDR4 laptop memory within the category, including higher-capacity SO-DIMM options for compatible portable systems.
Origin Storage covers both desktop and laptop DDR4 configurations, including 3200 modules in 8GB and 16GB capacities.
If RAM is part of a wider system upgrade, you can also go through compatible computer components while checking that the motherboard, processor and memory specifications work together.
Confirm DDR4 Support Before Ordering
Never choose DDR4 simply from the age of the computer or motherboard. Check the official specification for your exact system, motherboard, or processor, or use a manufacturer compatibility tool where available. Before ordering, confirm:
- DDR generation and format: DDR4 DIMM for a compatible desktop or DDR4 SO-DIMM for a compatible laptop or compact PC.
- Maximum capacity: check both the system's total memory limit and the maximum capacity supported per slot.
- Speed, voltage and profiles: confirm supported memory speeds, required voltage and whether relevant memory profiles are supported.
- ECC and memory type: check whether the system requires ECC or non-ECC memory and registered or unbuffered modules.
- Slots and clearance: check available memory slots and, for desktop modules with heat spreaders, available physical clearance.
The exact part number matters. Two modules from the same brand or product family can have different capacities, speeds, timings, and electrical specifications.
