Power and Portability Combined: MSI Stealth 14 Studio Review

MSI has been a frontrunner when it comes to gaming laptops and innovation. This year, we have seen the brand really step up its game by introducing multiple fascinating yet highly portable computing devices.

Ultra-light gaming laptop

The MSI Stealth 14 Studio is the successor to the ultra-powerful MSI Stealth 16 Studio, but it packs all the fun in an even smaller size. Featuring a weight of only 1.7kg (3.9 pounds), the laptop is the best friend for all gamers on the go. Moreover, the laptop is only 19mm thick, making it compact enough to easily tuck under your arm or carry in your bag. 

New and slick design

Well, we can't expect anything less than the best when it comes to the design and elegance of the MSI Stealth Series. The lid of the laptop exquisitely shows off the MSI logo. The magnesium-aluminium alloy chassis adds to the beauty of the device and also makes it highly durable. In other words, the laptop is durable enough to withstand the daily rough and tumble without letting it damage any internal components of the laptop. 

Immersive Gaming Experience

When the lid of the laptop is opened, it feels like we have entered gaming heaven. Despite having such compact dimensions, this ultra-light gaming laptop doesn’t fail to completely capture the attention of the user. 

The golden ratio display of 16:10 enables seeing extra-realistic visuals and ultra-vivid pixels on the screen of the laptop. Combined with a fascinating resolution of 2560 x 1600, you will feel like a part of what’s happening on the screen. So, instead of playing as a faceless character, here’s your chance to be the shining knight that you are. 

Latest Gen Processors

When it comes to processing power and efficiency, the MSI Stealth 14 Studio is a true beast. The laptop packs the latest 13th-generation Intel Core i7-13700H processors, which can handle whatever you throw at them. From fast-paced gaming to metaverse networking and high-end programming, there is nothing that this powerhouse can’t handle. 

RTX 40 Series GPU

The RTX Series is all the rage in the gaming world right now. Every gaming enthusiast wants to get their hands on this top-notch graphics card to take their gaming experience to another level. 

The MSI Stealth 14 laptop boasts the RTX 4050 GPU that can be upgraded up to the RTX 4070 for an even more seamless experience. With discrete graphics mode and MUX design, the RTX graphics are a dream come true for every pro gamer. So, you no longer need to worry about support or compatibility. The laptop can run anything and everything that you can put it through. 

RGB Keyboard

Backlit keyboards are so in, and no doubt, they look extremely cool. But with MSI Stealth (9S7-14K112-012), this kick has gone up a notch! 

The RGB keyboard on the laptop lets you individually customise the colour of each key. So, you can set the colours as per your mood or gaming preferences. For instance, I am a fan of first-person shooting games. From Call of Duty to Doom Eternal and Far Cry 5, you name a shooting game, and I have probably aced it. 

So, I customised the keyboard with a combination of red and orange colours to give the laptop an aesthetic similar to a fiery explosion. And how fast the adrenaline rushes when I shoot a rival in the game and my laptop blasts off a fiery gradient, you can't imagine! It’s a level of high that only a gaming maniac can feel. 

Privacy camera

One of the most impressive features of the laptop is its IR HD camera with webcam shutter. I don’t know about you, but I always hated those huge camera circles at the top of the laptop, ruining the outlook and elegance of an otherwise chic laptop. 

The MSI Stealth (9S7-14K112-012) thankfully comes with an extremely compact camera slot. The sensor is sharp and rapid, yet still small enough that if you are not attentively looking for it, you won’t even notice it. 

Now, camera logins are not a new thing in the laptop industry. But the one on Stealth 14 is extremely fast. It didn’t even take 30 seconds to log me in. Just open the lid, smile, and ta-da! Being a turbo-paced person, I can fall for such quick logins easily. (lol) 

Generous-sized touchpad

The only reason I generally prefer a gaming PC over a gaming laptop is the touchpad. Usually, the touchpad has limited space, which can make the gamer feel restricted during their gaming sessions. In some cases, you can even lose the game by a teeny tiny margin, and I have personally been a victim of this multiple times. 

Luckily, the MSI Stealth 14 features an extra-large touchpad that doesn’t feel restricted, i.e., I constantly played for 4-5 hours without stopping my fingers to roam around the touchpad even once. So, I guess in terms of the touchpad, this laptop surely gets some additional points.

Storage

Now that most of the external components are covered, let’s take a look at the internal features of this gaming laptop. 

With 16GB of RAM and 1TB of ultra-fast SSD storage, the MSI Studio 14 is sure to offer you a seamless gaming experience. But that’s not all. The laptop also comes with 2x memory slots supporting DDR5, so you are never short of storage to save your precious files or gaming data. 

Cooling System

Now-a-days, cooling systems are integrated into every entry-level to fast-paced gaming laptop. But that’s not enough. Sometimes, the cooling system may not be efficient enough to quickly dissipate heat, and most of the time, when turned on, the cooling fans make such annoying noise that you instantly want to thump the laptop off the wall. (Been there, done that.) 

The MSI Studio 14 features a comprehensive cooling system with a vapour chamber cooler that gives 50% higher thermal coverage as compared to a PCBA. The laptop didn’t get overheated or make any unnecessary noise during gaming. I also tried extreme multitasking by opening multiple gaming tabs side by side, streaming music, working, and chatting—but the laptop mordaciously handled it all without exploding off, and that’s definitely a good sign.

Overall, the MSI Stealth (9S7-14K112-012) is one of the industry's ultra-fast and highly mobile gaming laptops, ideal for gamers who are constantly on the move.
