HP Pavilion 15 cx0001na Gaming Laptop GTX 1050 – Review

The HP Pavilion 15 gaming series are notebooks that are designed to offer mid-level gaming and work needed assistance. The HP Pavilion 15 cx0001na comes with such specs offering reliable processing as well as competitive gaming performance that you can rely on. Let’s take a look at what makes this gaming laptop a great choice for you:
General Specs
Here’s the general overview of HP Pavilion 15 cx0001na’s specs:
- AMD Ryzen 5 3550H 2.1 GHz base-3.7 GHz Quad-Core Processor
- 15.6” full HD display
- Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 3GB GDDR5 dedicated GPU
- 8GB RAM, 256 GB SSD
- Backlit keyboard
Performance
The HP Pavilion 15 cx0001na comes with an AMD Ryzen 5 processing unit. Even though the processing unit is enough to provide performance for dealing with the daily workload, it still isn’t enough to provide the ample power that one needs for gaming. The current processor coincides with the performance of Core i5. Apart from that, it didn’t offer convincing power for the 64Bit Cinebench test compared with its competitors Acer Swift 3 and HP Envy x360. The 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD are there to elevate the performance; however, if you’re planning on playing intensively, then you may need to upgrade the processing unit to get the best outcomes.
Display & GPU
The HP Pavilion 15 cx0001na features 15.6” FHD display. However, even with a 144Hz refresh rate, the laptop isn’t able to offer the brightness needed for immaculate gaming. During the brightness tests, the HP Pavilion 15 cx0001na was able to give 235.8 cd/m2, which is lower than the expected value of at least 300 cd/m2. That is why it can only be used indoors because the display would not be optimal when used outdoors. There’s no anti-glare coating, which wouldn’t reduce light glare. Moreover, it comes with PWM brightness that may cause headaches due to low brightness.
As for the GPU, the HP Pavilion 15 cx0001na comes with NVidia GeForce GTX 1050 3GB GDDR5 dedicated GPU. With the recent release of Nvidia RTX 30-series, the GTX 1050 seems a little too low for offering immaculate details. The sRGB and Adobe RGB colour gamut are also to low (39% and 59%). The viewing angles are somewhat satisfactory; however, the overall display isn’t promising, especially if you’re looking for an immersive gaming experience.
Keyboard & Trackpad
The surface feel of HP Pavilion 15 cx0001na is superb. The crisp feedback allows smooth typing and faster response gives reliable typing. With 15mm edge length and short travel distance gives control over typing that one needs. The keys have backlighting as well; however, it’s not optimized and makes reading suboptimal. Apart from that, you get a well-crafted keyboard that can provide the assistance you need.
As for the trackpad, you get a wider pad with input movement even at the corners. There aren’t dedicated buttons. However, the clicks are less crisp and offer reliable functioning that you’ll need when you’re not using a mouse.
Battery
Although its energy-efficient still comes with a low battery runtime. It lasted only about 2 hours under load, which makes it incompetent for usage. Many games often consume power from all the components, which makes this gaming laptop inefficient since you’ll probably be needing to keep it plugged in.
Additional Factor
The grill speakers on the top of the keyboard offer medium sound quality. 68dB is the loudest that these can produce, which isn’t loud enough. Moreover, you’ll have to deal with heat issues. Even in idle mode, the laptop is facing heat issues, which subjects it to heat issues that can cause the system to crash.
Final Verdict
Considering the HP Pavilion 15 review, it can be said that this HP gaming laptop offers reliable workability but not for intensive gaming. It isn’t offering long battery hours, which makes it probably the last choice for portability. The display, processing, and even the GPU aren’t top-tiered for intensive gaming. But it’s a great choice for mid-level gaming and work.
